Indianapolis, IN – Located in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, the 12,300-seat Victory Field ballpark is the home of the Indianapolis Indians, the triple A affiliate of the Pittsburg Pirates. Over the years, many renovations and amenities have been added to the minor league ballpark but none quite a daunting as prior to the current season. Mid-America Sports Construction (a division of Mid-America Golf and Landscape) was contracted to install new irrigation and drainage and then, replace all of the turf inside the ballpark over the winter months.
Turf replacement was completed in two installments. In early December of 2023, the infield and aprons were sodded using a very specific type of grass turf best suited for the Indiana climate. With winter coming, it was essential to protect the new turf from ice and snow. COVERMASTER® EVERGREEN® PREMIUM TURF COVERS were used to cover the new turf and increase the ground temperature. By February of 2024, snow was removed from the outfield and the same process was implemented.
As winter faded and spring began, COVERMASTER® EVERGREEN® PREMIUM TURF BLANKETS with it’s patented lace coating technology attracted more heat and created a greenhouse effect that provided quicker green up and healthier, stronger turf. Nearly, 120,000 square feet EVERGREEN® PREMIUM TURF COVERS retained more natural heat and moisture while promoting deep root development. The result was thicker, greener turf just in time to “Play ball”.
